WHO WE ARE

Adopt A Homeless Person Incorporated was envisioned and created to assist in providing shelter/transitional housing, community building services, assisted living programs, food, job training skills, and assistance to pursue education for men, women, pregnant women, and families who have been incarcerated, underserved, underprivileged, disenfranchised, and disadvantaged. The program seeks to provide positive role models, socialization activities and educational involvement. The assisted living, transitional housing, and supportive community building services programs helps individuals regain stability.

OUR GOAL

The primary goal of Adopt A Homeless Person is to eliminate the risk factors that predispose men, women, pregnant women, and families to abuse, neglect, homelessness, delinquency, and encounters with the criminal justice system. Research shows that the primary risk factors for these types of situations include:
Family influence such as poor family management practices, substance abuse, criminality and lack of education;
_______
Maltreatment, physical or sexual abuse and or forced to leave home;
_______
Neighborhood factors such as economic deprivation, high rate of substance abuse, crime and disorganization.

THE NEED

Our program reveals that to counter these risks, protective factors which moderate disadvantaged individual’s exposure must be introduced. Three basic categories of protective factors are identified as: 1) positive social orientation; 2) bonding with pro-social family members, teachers, adults and friends; and 3) healthy beliefs and clear standards of behavior.
